Pocono Old-Tyme Farm Equipment Association preserves region's heritage with machines that once worked its land July 20, 2001By JACKY MARTIN Special to The Morning Call - Freelance A visit to the West End Fair several years ago led to the birth of the Pocono Old-Tyme Farm Equipment Association. According to Cindy Kuehner, whose husband, Burdell, serves as the organization's vice president, "A bunch of us were talking here at the fair in 1994 or 1995. Most of the couples were brought up on farms in this area and were reminiscing about the old farming days. They decided to meet at one of the homes, and that's how it all began." Pulling for farms Friday, September 9, 2011 Olde Tyme Farm Equipment Association salutes classic workhorse machines The Olde Tyme Farm Equipment Association antique farm equipment, gas engine and tractor show was held recently at the West End Fairgrounds. Vice President Dennis Borger, one of the founding members, said people in the West End of Monroe County had been talking about hosting a local show when they attended a tractor pull at the fairgrounds. Bill Gethen said if anybody was interested in starting a show they could meet in his garage. From that lowly start in 1995 the club now has over 400 members. The idea is to preserve farming and to "preserve, restore and educate people about antique farm equipment, implements and toys." There were truck, tractor and pedal tractor pulls showcased during the show. Regular meetings take place the second Thursday of each month at the West End Fire Hall in Brodheadsville, Route 715. They begin at 7:30 p.m. Just show up - newcomers are always welcome. The club holds its annual show, tractor pulls and a benefit pull at the end of the year. Saturday, October 2, 2021
The Pocono Old-Tyme Farm Equipment Association is holding a benefit 4 x 4 Tractor Fun Pull on Saturday, Oct. 2, 2021 at the West End
Fairgrounds in Gilbert.
All the proceeds will go to the family of Dalton Davidson, who was recently killed in a tractor accident. This is a tribute to Dalton and his love of life, family, friends and tractors.
Dennis Borger, president of the Pocono Old-Tyme Farm Equipment Association, says that they do a benefit pull every year to help someone in their
community. "We took a vote on it and everyone wanted to see us do this benefit to help
the Davidson family," he said.
The event is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. This Tractor Fun Pull is just that, a fun day of pulling. There will be no trophies, no prizes and no rules (safety rules DO apply.) Anyone who would like to participate in the pulls is welcome. Spectators are invited to experience the pulls, fun and food. All proceeds will benefit the Davidson family.
